Pedal & Treadle is proud to partner with Tools with a Mission, taking in unwanted sewing machines. We service and repair them ready for shipping to Sub Saharan and East Africa, helping vulnerable people in poverty rebuild their lives.

How do I donate my machine?

  • Contact us on 07825 904066 or email
  • Taunton, Wellington, Tiverton or Oakhampton and 15 miles thereabouts.
    • We can collect at a mutually agreeable time/day or
    • you are welcome to drop the machine to our workshop in TA4 1JU.
  • Other locations
    • I can collect machines but may need to ask you to hang on to your donation until I can get enough machines to make the trip worthwhile.
  • If you are a group who have gathered donations of 5+ machines I can collect sooner and to a mutually agreeable time.

What machines do we accept?

  • All makes and model of mechanical machines including industrial
  • Treadle machines are possible but not guaranteed due to time and space for restoration. Your details will be passed on to a collecting volunteer with a van.

Do you accept broken machines?

  • Yes. If we have the parts we will repair the machine. If the machine is beyond repair we will use it as a donor machine to help repair other machines.

Can I chose where my machines goes?

  • Afraid not. The machines are dispersed through registered charities to people living in extreme poverty, helping them develop skills and change their lives, gain dignity and have a safer future.
  • Primary beneficiaries are single mothers, school dropouts, street orphans, the homeless, people with physical disabilities and ex sex-workers.

Can I get my machine back?

  • Yes: If it has not had any work done on it, contact us to pick it up.
  • Yes: If it has had work done on it but it has not been collected you can pay for the work completed and collect the machine. Payment will be to Pedal & Treadle as you will revert to being a customer of our services instead of a donor.
  • No: If the work has been completed and the machine has been collected it is too late.
  • All machine must be collected from Pedal & Treadle’s workshop in Milverton, TA4 1JU

Why:

  • My family lived in East Africa during my childhood, working alongside local communities by sharing practical, trade-not-aid skills. It had an enormous impact on our lives, which is why I chose a charity working with East Africa.
