About

Anna Farrow started sewing when she was five years old. Her first lesson was to sew a simple cushion. Her second lesson was how to clean the machine (thanks, Mum!) She continued her learning studying sewing and textiles at school, and with adult learning at Central St Martins. She also learned to service and maintain her own machines leading to gaining formal qualifications.

Why become an Engineer?

I have been using and maintaining my own machines for most of my life. Today I have six machines, one of which is a Singer treadle that I restored and still use.

“Pedal & Treadle” represents that I service modern and old machines. Sewing machines can work well for decades if they are taken care of.

I had an opportunity to change career from the corporate grind to a subject I love, so I decided to take the leap and start Pedal & Treadle.

How Qualified and Experienced are you?

My lifetime of experience has been cemented with formal training courses and practical, pass-or-fail exams. This turned self-learning on my machines into formal qualifications so I can service and repair a wide range of machines to a high, consistent and professional standard.

How Does Your Sewing Experience Help Me?

My discussions with engineers would reveal that they did not sew. They knew the machinery but not the application.

I sew clothing, soft furnishings and crafts with different machines so have developed a broad understanding of what you and your machine are going through when you sew different projects.

Why should I trust you with my machine?

Because I understand how important that machine is to you. You don’t want to hand over your machine for weeks at a time, or have surprise costs, or have a battle trying to persuade an engineer that yes, you really do want that battered old workhorse machine that you know and love serviced and repaired.

Sewing machines can be a big investment that needs taking care of. I respect and value your machines as much as I do my own.

What’s next for Pedal & Treadle?

I am continuing my formal training and qualifications to offer an even wider service – just let me know if you want to be kept informed!
